Desafíos en el cuidado oncológico de enfermería: alfabetización en salud y nutrición en pacientes con cáncer

La Alfabetización en Salud en Cáncer (ASC) es la capacidad de búsqueda, comprensión y uso de la información para tomar decisiones sobre la prevención, el diagnóstico y el tratamiento de la enfermedad (1). Cuando su nivel es inadecuado, se asocia con menos conductas preventivas y de detección, mayor tiempo de retraso en la identificación de síntomas y búsqueda de ayuda médica, menor cumplimiento del tratamiento (2) y peores resultados respecto de su enfermedad (3). Por otro lado, los pacientes también pueden experimentar problemas relacionados con la dieta. Además, los estudios indican que existe una brecha entre las necesidades nutricionales y el asesoramiento recibido (4-6).
